UFSC Entrepreneur Institute

“Charting Your Course for the New Economy - Since September 2008, we have seen financial institutions fall, major retailers go out of business, and thousands of individuals laid off. Now we are starting to see signs that the economy is coming out of the economic storm.  As we look forward to the impending future, everyone has to prepare for the new realities that will be presented to financial professionals, business owners and the community.  In this session, attendees will learn what they need to do to “Chart their Course in the New Economy”.

Positioning Yourself for the Loan” (Small Business Underwriting) - The session will address what financial institutions take into consideration in the underwriting process and what business owners need to know to position them for the loan.

“How to Get Access to Capital - The presenter is a 32-year veteran in the Private equity/venture industry who manages and has invested over $400 million of venture capital, and has financed more than 100 businesses, from start-ups to turnarounds.  He will identify and discuss various types and sources of debt and equity capital, and how to structure your business in order to increase your opportunity of accessing start-up and growth capital.

Government Stimulus Opportunities” – The Government has made available information and financial resources to help stimulate the economy and spur an economy recovery.  However, many business owners are not still aware of all the opportunities and what they need to do eligible to take advantage of all the opportunities.  In this session business owners will learn about companies who are taking advantage of the stimulus resources and how they too can participate in rebuilding America’s economy. One of the areas of focus will address Energy and Environmental conservation.

Luncheon

“CEO Symposium / Leadership Luncheon” - Winston Churchill said it best: “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” Yes, there are challenges ahead as the world pulls out of the worst recession since the Great Depression.  High unemployment rates, unprecedented number of bank closures and home foreclosures, global trade imbalances, conservative credit system and overleveraged consumers all place a heavy burden on the recovery.  And yet, despite these obstacles, some very real opportunities exist - but only for the most responsive, well prepared executives and corporations. How can one seize the initiative to differentiate themselves from less fleet footed rivals by executing strategies that will enable them to turn chaos into opportunity? Top leaders from the industry will discuss how today’s leaders can avoid the impulse to retreat and continue to win in a slow-growth economy. (Leadership Luncheon Registration Fee  - $40 per person)

Concurrent Workshops

“Bonding Fundamentals - How Bonds Work and How to Get Them” - The session will walk thru what a bond is, why are they important, how do you get them and Alternative Markets.  It will end with thirteen (13) important recommendations you need to know to setup a bonding program.

“Preparing To Do Business With Large Corporations” - This workshop is customized and designed for minority and women owned enterprises / small businesses (MWBEs) and will cover topics in a frank and honest manner. It is designed to illustrate to businesses that other business are not necessarily competition, but can be collaborative partners in growing capacity; shoring up gaps in the business model; and demonstrating to a large corporation that the combined business has the scope and breadth to do business at a Tier I or Tier II Level.

“Never Laid Off - Become Self-Employed” - You’re smart. You know your product and your market. You run rings around your peers and your competition. But do you really want to own the business? … After 30 years as a professional on someone else’s payroll, Alvin Nichols decided to start his own company, building a business from the ground up. … How did he come to the decision to start his own company? How did he prepare, and how did he execute? ….. Learn practical processes for making the go / no-go decision to start your own company, no matter what business line you’re considering. Learn how to make the most of who you are.

“Minority Certification and Procurement Opportunities”, includes "Doing Business with the FDIC"  – Do you want to grow your small business?  Do you want to know how to leverage your minority status to take advantage of special federal, state or local programs?
