African American Briefing for Financial Professionals
The African American Briefing for Financial Professionals provides an opportunity for leaders and members of UFSC to learn from lawmakers, regulators, industry experts and government leaders about strategies they are creating to stimulate job growth, promote businesses and revitalize communities. Participants also learn how to overcome the various challenges currently facing the financial services industry.
Urban Financial Services Coalition invites you to Part II of the 7th Annual African American Briefing for Financial Professionals, June 3 -4, 2018, Washington DC.
The briefing kicks off with a networking dinner at the Carolina’s Kitchen on Sunday, June 3, 2018, 6:00 pm. The soul food dinner will give attendees the opportunity to meet their colleagues that will be attending the briefing, renew friendships from last year’s briefing and serve as an icebreaker for people who are new to the briefing. June 4, 2018 will be a day to Be Informed, Be Engaged and Be Advocate for change by learning about the current governmental and legislative changes in the financial services industry and its impact on financial institutions, financial professionals and communities of colors. This year’s line-up experts features speakers from American Bankers Association, Office of the Comptroller, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and many more. The following members of Congress have been invited to participate: Karen Bass, Mark Warner, Maxine Waters, Tim Scott, and Mia Love.

General Sessions: Attendees will hear from a variety of subject matter experts on topics that impact the financial services industry and community of colors.
Capitol Hill Briefing: Urban Financial Services Coalition has invited members of the Congressional Caucus, House Committee on Financial Services and Governmental Leaders to discuss key concerns in the financial services industry and their impact on communities of color.
Networking Dinner at The Carolina Kitchen: The Carolina Kitchen is the most amazing and popular southern cuisine restaurant group; it has a unique charm that appeals to everyone. From the moment one enters, they are transported to another world designed to stimulate the soul and indulge the senses. It was created offer its guest taste buds an amazing journey through the South. Using only the freshest ingredients to their menu, they combine unique blends of Cajun and Creole spices with traditional and savory home style cooking.
Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to dinner and the cost of dinner.

The African American Briefing for Financial Professionals (AABFP) is an opportunity for leaders of Urban Financial Services Coalition to learn from lawmakers, regulators and government leaders on what strategies they are creating to create jobs, grow businesses and revitalize communities. It is also an opportunity for leaders to learn how they can be a resource to overcome the challenges facing the financial services industry.
UFSC is collaborating with the American Bankers Association (ABA) Government Relations Summit for portions of the program. During the registration process, if an attendee selects a collaborated activity, then UFSC will register attendee for those events and attendee will receive a confirmation from American Bankers Association.

Community Roundtable Discussion: Urban Financial Services Coalition has invited leaders of community groups to discuss the issues and challenges financially impacting the African American community from local, regional and national perspective. Each organization is charged with sharing their perspective on the top financial issues facing the African American community, what their organization is doing to address the issue and how other organizations can collaborate with them.
Networking Dinner at Georgia Brown’s: Georgia Brown’s restaurant is a Washington D.C. favorite for visitors and natives of the Washington D.C. Chef Bryan Yearly, Georgia Brown’s Executive Chief, brings the together the cooking influences of Africans, the French Huguenots and the Sephardic Jews from Portugal and Spain to provide attendees a uniquely diverse and history rich southern cuisines to enjoy while networking. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to dinner and the cost of dinner.
Smithsonian National Museum African American History & Culture Tour: The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history and culture. It was established by Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the Museum has collected more than 36,000 artifacts and nearly 100,000 individuals have become charter members. The Museum opened to the public on September 24, 2016, as the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.
White House Briefing: Urban Financial Services Coalition, White House Officials and Trump Administration officials will participate in a briefing for African American Financial Professionals. The briefing will feature top African American financial professionals, who will participate in a discussion on how the Administration is addressing key issues of concern within the financial services industry and communities of color and how financial professionals can partner with the administration to make progress in the African American communities.

The Urban Financial Services Coalition (UFSC) has announced that its 42nd Annual Summit and 6th Annual African American Briefing will be held in Washington, DC on June 23-25, 2016. This will be the first time that the two events will run simultaneously. This joint event will give members and constituents an opportunity to convene and discuss the current state of and changes in, the financial services industry affecting their personal and professional lives. There will be information sessions on topics including, but not limited to, career planning, financial literacy, regulatory and economic updates, entrepreneurship, not-for-profit service and professional development and leadership. The signature Oratorical and Youth Business Plan Competitions will also be offered.
